The gentle creak as a longbow is drawn, the steady drumbeats before a melody, the deadly whisper as a sword leaves its scabbard. Just three of many beginnings... and then the fun starts.

The Lion Rampant are first and foremost entertainers. We portray the colourful lives of the medieval nobility who lived between the 11th and 15th centuries. We also endeavor to educate whilst we entertain, and to this end, its not unusual to see characters from all five centuries on the field together.

From the moment the showground opens, to the moment the last member of the audience leaves, there will be always be something happening at a Lion Rampant show. Whether its a full tournament including all of our members, a juggler performing to a group of excited children, or just some squires playing games over a leisurely lunch, there will always be some activity to watch, share and enjoy with us.

A Typical Day? In reality there is no such thing as a typical Lion Rampant day, as every show is different and often tailored to suit the requirements of the venues we are performing at. Years of experience have created a wonderfully talented group of enthusiastic performers, flexible, and used to adapting to the changing schedules at many a Medieval event. But whatever the circumstances, we will always try to display as many of our skills as possible within the time available to us. If we are able to perform a full show, the morning will usually begin with Squire Training, with the rest of the day continuing a little like this:

Education:  Although the Tournament is the last official event in a normal day, there will be educational aspects throughout the whole show day, whether it be a narration during the archery display or an additional Arming of a Knight element before the Tournament.  And of course we are very approachable, and happy to talk to members of the audience anytime about various aspects of the show, although it’s usually easiest at the end of the day when we aren’t rushing off to get changed for the next event.

Just remember, whatever you have come to see, whether it’s enchanting dancing to beautiful music, or the thunderous clash of fully armed and armoured Knights, there is something for everyone at a Lion Rampant show.
