

Alice de Bromale, born 1340, died 1403, lived all her life at Bramall Hall, Bramhall, Cheshire. The mannor of Bromale (Bramhall as it is now called) passed into the de Bromale family from the second Baron of Dunham Massey at around 1180, to Mathew de Bromale who, as was customary then, took his name from the land. The estate remained in the hands of the de Bromale family for almost 200 yearsuntil finally passing from Geoffrey de Bromale to his daughter Alice as there was no male heir to the estate.
Alice married John de Davanport around 1360, at which time, the de Bromale coat of arms, the cresent rampant lion was courted with the three crosses on a field of the de Davenport coat of arms, the decendants of Alice and her husband John de Davanport resided at the hall for a further 500 years bearing the courted coat of arms of the de Bromale and de Davenport families.
